Stroma

Stroma

It was as if we were the last men on earth, desolate, aware now of our own future. Will this be what it’s like if we continue to ravish our planet?

The consideration made personal as we drove past neat gardens all abandoned with their delicate slate slabs still edging the paths. We halted in a gap between these old homes. A community had lived here buffeted by storms. Why had they left? Where had they gone? What were they doing now? Their empty houses stand in silent witness to the busy traffic of a major shipping lane while Stroma, deserted, sits astride a tidal energy source second to none.
At the end of our first visit we knew there was a hidden and fascinating story to tell. Epochal events may ebb and flow but it’s the small things that really matter. Stroma is a microcosm of humanity’s fleeting struggle with the planet and still has huge relevance for how we forge our energy future and our relationship with the environment; a small island, a big story.
