St Kilda Snapshots
Based on Lachlan Macdonald’s Collection
This lavishly illustrated book by David Quine, who has written several acclaimed accounts of St Kilda, contains many rare photos taken by the late Lachlan MacDonald of life on St Kilda, the last inhabitants of that remote archipelago, and the St Kildans after the evacuation. Lachlan was born on St Kilda in 1906, left at the time of the evacuation in 1930, and died in 1991. David met him for the first time in 1977 when a valued friendship immediately developed with Lachlan and his wife Nancy. That relationship led to this beautiful book, an evocative and very personal tribute to an island community and a way of life which is now over.
